Prophecy of Heber C. Kimball

An army of Elders will be sent to the four quarters of the earth to search out the righteous and warn the wicked of what is coming. All kinds of religions will be started and miracles performed that will deceive the very elect if that were possible. Our sons and daughters must live pure lives so as to be prepared for what is coming.

After a while the gentiles will gather by the thousands to this place, and Salt Lake City will be classed among the wicked cities of the world. A spirit of speculation and extravagance will take possession of the Saints, and the results will be financial bondage.

Persecution comes next and all true Latter-day Saints will be tested to the limit. Many will apostatize and others will be still not knowing what to do. Darkness will cover the earth and gross darkness the minds of the people. The judgements of God will be poured out on the wicked to the extent that our Elders from far and near will be called home, or in other words the gospel will be taken from the Gentiles and later on carried to the Jews.

The western boundary of the State of Missouri will be swept so clean of its inhabitants that as President Young tells us, when you return to that place, there will not be left so much as a yellow dog to wag his tail. "Before that day comes, however, the Saints will be put to tests that will try the integrity of the best of them. The pressure will become so great that the more righteous among them will cry unto the Lord day and night until deliverance comes.

Then the prophet and others will make their appearance and those who have remained faithful will be selected to return to Jackson County, Missouri, and take part in the upbuilding of that beautiful city, the New Jerusalem.

My Thoughts After the State of the Union Address

President Obama said some crazy things during his State of the Union address. One in particular is giving me anxiety.

"The executive branch also needs to change. Too often, it's inefficient, outdated, and remote. That's why I've asked this Congress to grant me the authority to consolidate the federal bureaucracy so that our government is leaner, quicker, and more responsive to the needs of the American people"

AHHHHHHH!!

To do that you must restructure the US Constitution!! The concept of Separation of Powers is embodied in the Constitution in the 1st Article, in the 2nd Article, and in the 3rd Article.

The United States Constitution is deliberately inefficient.

The Separation of Powers devised by the framers of the Constitution was designed to do one primary thing: to prevent the majority from ruling with an iron fist. Based on their experience, the framers shied away from giving any branch of the new government too much power. The separation of powers provides a system of shared power known as "Checks and Balances".

Three branches are created in the Constitution. The Legislative, composed of the House and Senate, is set up in Article 1. The Executive, composed of the President, Vice-President, and the Departments, is set up in Article 2. The Judicial, composed of the federal courts and the Supreme Court, is set up in Article 3.

Each of these branches has certain powers, and each of these powers is limited, or checked, by another branch.

For example, the President appoints judges and departmental secretaries. But these appointments must be approved by the Senate. The Congress can pass a law, but the President can veto it. The Supreme Court can rule a law to be unconstitutional, but the Congress, with the States, can amend the Constitution.

All of these checks and balances, however, are inefficient. But that's by design rather than by accident. By forcing the various branches to be accountable to the others, no one branch can usurp enough power to become dominant. (information from http://www.usconstitution.net)

This weekend I was reading in Daughters in My Kingdom. I want to share one part:

The Apostle Paul wrote of women who, both in Church positions and of their own volition, served the Saints. His description of a righteous widow identified characteristics of many women in the early Church:

“Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.”

Paul also wrote of the influence of wise, experienced older women. He counseled Titus to encourage older women to serve and teach young women about their eternal roles as wives and mothers, “that they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children.”

This is describing Visiting Teaching during ancient times in the primitive church. Visiting Teaching is not a new concept, it is doing our duty to Christ as his disciples. Let's keep in mind that as we serve those in our stewardship this month, that we are being valiant disciples of Jesus Christ in the work of salvation.

Curriculum
Kimber curriculum combines gospel and secular scholarship into a perfect blend that helps students to focus on learning to love learning. Because of our strong belief in family unity, our curriculum is designed to be used with all ages grouped together in the family setting.

Dr. Glenn Kimber and his wife Julianne have spent over 30 years developing curriculum that enables children not only to excel academically but also to come to know their Heavenly Father as never before. This values-based education is for ages K–12. The core classes are Book of Mormon, math, science, language arts, and history. Students are tested on these subjects three times during the school year. Elective classes may include music, drama, language, and speech.

Testing
Kimber Academy's positive, innovative and diagnostic approach to testing is perfect for families who want to measure the progress of their children. Parents and students can easily identify areas of progress and areas which need improvement.
All testing is handled by the KimbCo National Testing Center. Home schoolers can request tests for $30 each. The testing center will correct the tests once they are submitted to the Center, and diagnostic results will be returned to the family.
There are four levels of testing:

Ages 12 and older: HSGED Exams
Ages 9 – 11: NTC-SrE. Exam (Senior Elementary Test)
Ages 7-8 : NTC-JE Exam (Junior Elementary Test)
Ages 5-6: NTC-BEG Exam (Beginner Test)
*Ages are only approximate, and vary according to level of learning.
We test the students three times during the school year so that the students’ progress can more effectively be assessed. When students are tested more often, academic areas needing improvement can receive more attention during the year. Each of the four areas of tests have three different exams, and each test in the series is a little more challenging.

Intrinsic Values
Intrinsic Values are the internal qualities within the method of study that will assist the student to develop a talent. Each subject studied at Kimber Academy enhances a different Intrinsic Value. The students will learn and develop different talents with each subject studied.

Talents are developed and strengthened by frequent practice. For example, if a student performs one academic service project during a year’s time, a talent for service is really not firmly established. However, doing 40 academic service projects every year (nearly one per week), will develop a talent for service.

The following list of the Kimber Academy core subjects shows the Intrinsic Value and the talent that the students will learn and develop.

LANGUAGE ARTS
(4 Volumes)
Intrinsic Value: Learning how to lose oneself in academic service.

Language Arts is the art of communication. After students learn a Language Arts principle, they refer to the scriptures to see how the Lord used it. Then the students practice the principle by using it in an academic service project. Skills are developed as students discover ways to share with others what they have learned. Students are taught that knowledge is only theirs if they learn to give it away. The more they share their knowledge, the more it is theirs. As students progress through their Language Arts studies, they will have the opportunity to perform over 160 academic service projects over a four-year period. After completing these service projects, students will have developed the talent of “learning how to lose oneself in ac academic service.”

SCIENCE
(6 Volumes)
Intrinsic Value: Learning how to search the scriptures.

Each of the Science books directs the student to answer two questions- “How God Created” a particular facet of the creation, and “Why God Created” His creations. The “HOW” question is answered as students research academic reference books from the library, encyclopedias, or internet resources, etc., related to that subject. The “WHY” question leads the students to study the scriptures of their choice to discover testimony-building answers from God’s revealed word. In this way, students develop the talent of “learning how to search the scriptures,” as well as using additional reference books to find their answers.

MATHEMATICS
(6 Volumes)
Intrinsic Value: Learning how to self-govern using correct principles.

The Kimber Academy Math curriculum is principle-based. The students first read and memorize a principle, are shown an example of its use, and then they create and solve their own math problems. This allows students to progress at their own depth. Since our Math curriculum covers over 300 specific principles, students will soon learn how to use correct principles and govern themselves. This talent of “learning how to self-govern using correct principles” will be of invaluable worth all their lives.

HISTORY
(5 Volumes)
Intrinsic Value: Learning how to ponder.

History is more than facts. History can be defined as a study of “God’s dealings with mankind, and mankind’s dealings with each other.” It is this concept that makes history important and sacred. In the Kimber Academy History program students learn “Hook Dates.” These are significant dates to which are attached specific people and events. Each day, students have the opportunity to recall the information they previously learned and then they are taught additional material. This develops within the student the ability to mentally assemble vast quantities of information at a given time, thus allowing students to ponder over the subject. As students do this day after day, they develop the talent of “learning how to ponder.”

BOOK OF MORMON
(3 Volumes)
Intrinsic Value: Learning how to apply scriptures to everyday life.

In 1 Nephi 19:23, Nephi tells us that he “did liken all scriptures unto [the Nephites], that it might be for [their] profit and learning.” The scriptures are of the most value to us as we of the latter days apply their teachings into our daily lives. The Book of Mormon was written with this in mind. The Prophet Mormon and his son Moroni saw our day, and in vision experienced the events that are happening to us now. (Mormon 3:17-20; 8:34-35) Therefore, they included answers in the Book of Mormon to help us deal with the perilous circumstances of today. Like our other histories, the Book of Mormon curriculum also uses “hook Dates.” Students are taught specifics on how to apply the stories and doctrines of the Book of Mormon into their daily lives. In this way, the students develop the talent of “learning how to apply scriptures to everyday life.”

The Issue
A party-line vote has claimed the Internet for President Obama and his liberal cohorts and dealt a stunning blow to Free Speech in America.

This move no doubt fueled by the Tea Party successes, and a growing fear among liberals that conservatives needed to be silenced wasn’t widely reported. In fact, many are unsure as to what the new Net Neutrality rules actually mean. What is certain, however, is that in seizing the Internet Obama has also muzzled the greatest mechanism of growth in our history (under the guise of promoting "freedom" for all), and taken one giant step closer to controlling the unfettered access to news and information that we read.

The Action
Without the support of the American people and requiring no votes in Congress, the so-called Net Neutrality rules didn’t require any Congressional action.

Now with the federal government seizing control, Grassfire Nation is moving quickly to amass
at least 100,000 petitions demanding Congress to reverse the Net Neutrality ruling through legislation. As soon as the new Congress convenes (January 24), Grassfire Nation will present your petitions to key members of Congress and committees responsible for overseeing the Internet.

The Petition States: As a concerned citizen, I am signing this petition opposing the so-called "Net Neutrality" regulations being considered by the Federal Communications Commission, or similar legislation in Congress or the states. Net Neutrality imposes government control on the free market of the Internet and is yet another statist power grab.

The FCC does not have the authority to force such sweeping regulations on the free market. I strongly oppose this effort and urge the FCC to: a) keep government control out of the Internet, and, b) leave the legislating to Congress.

I also urge Congress to reverse through legislation any effort by the FCC or others to impose so-called "Net Neutrality".

Angel and Shepherd with Down Syndrome in Flemish Nativity Painting

It was the light of the painting that first drew Dr. Andre Leviats towards it. Radiating from the infant Jesus in a rare, nocturnal nativity scene, it illuminated from below the faces of the dozen figures around the crib.

But as Dr. Levitas approached he noticed something even more striking in the Dutch renaissance piece. The small, angelic figure depicted next to Mary was unmistakable a person with Down syndrome. And the shepherd standing one row back also appeared to have the same distinctive characteristics.

At a major exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City, among some of the most documented paintings in the world, Dr. Levitas had made a discovery: it was the earliest clear depiction of Down syndrome painted 3-1/2 centuries before the condition was defined by John Langdon Down in 1866.

What was more, the unknown painter of The Adoration of the Christ Child, circa 1515, did not appear to be making any special point about the condition. The Down syndrome characters were participating in the scene the same way as everyone else.

The Elders of Israel and the Constitution

Who can disagree that the Constitution of the United States of America is "hanging by a thread"?
As I have been following the news and what is going on in all braches of government I can see this prophecy come to pass.

The best part of this prophecy in my opionion is that it will be saved! According to Brigham Young: Will the Constitution be destroyed? No: it will be held inviolate by this people; and, as Joseph Smith said, “The time will come when the destiny of the nation will hang upon a single thread. At that critical juncture, this people will step forth and save it from the threatened destruction.” It will be so. (Journal of Discourses, Voulme 7, p. 15)

In a 1972 Ensign Ezra Taft Bensen has recommended a book called Elders of Israel and the Constitution. I would recommend reading it. Also, another great book is The 5000 Year Leap by Cleon Skousn.

Wow. This is a big eye opener for me. We need to pay attention to what the government is doing to the dollar and our national debt. Look up quantitative easing. This is not good.

NIA (National Inflation Association) projects that at the average U.S. grocery store it will soon cost $11.43 for one ear of corn, $23.05 for a 24 oz loaf of wheat bread, $62.21 for a 32 oz package of Domino Granulated Sugar, $24.31 for a 32 fl oz container of soy milk, $77.71 for a 11.30 oz container of Folgers Classic Roast Coffee, $45.71 for a 64 fl oz container of Minute Maid Orange Juice, and $15.50 for a Hershey's Milk Chocolate 1.55 oz candy bar. NIA also projects that by the end of this decade, a plain white men's cotton t-shirt at Wal-Mart will cost $55.57.

Not that I am opposed to voting a candidate from a different party, but they seem to be the closest to my ideals and views. Jason Chaffetz is one of my favorite candidates. First Day of School

The first day of school is today! Hooray!

Here we have our second grade diva, Hannah. Is she trendy and styling or what? She must get it from her Aunt Lindsay. I'm not very stylish.
Hannah has Mrs. Osbourne for second grade. She was so excited. We rode our bikes to school this morning. We arrived way too early, but oh well better than being late.

Here is Lydia our third grader. She is so excited to go. She has on her Sponge Bob backpack! Shaylee and Lydia both rode in the bike trailer to school. They love it. Lydia remembered where her classroom was and acted like there wasn't a break at all!

Homemade Dill Pickes!

Yesterday I had so much fun making pickles with Mom and Grandma. I love this recipe so much I thought that I would blog it. Here is how you make your very own homemade dill pickles.

This recipe was my Grandpa Price's (My mom's dad) mother's recipe.
Grandma Ruby Bagley Price.
1 quart vinegar
2 qt. water
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 salt
dill
This makes about 6 quart jars.

My mom let me use her cucumbers from her garden.

We washed the cucks.

So, I starting cutting the cucumbers. This is the size we like:

Okay, next you put some dill in the mason jars. We put in about 5 stalks, 1 or 2 "trees" and a lot of seed. Probably 2 TBL of seeds.

The next step is to stuff the jars with the cucumbers. Grandma here likes to tip the jar on its side and put the green part of the cuck toward the outside of the jar. It makes it look pretty and saves room.

Pretty.

On the stove in a large pot, add vinegar, water, sugar, and salt. Stir. While your waiting for this to boil, put lids in a pan of water.

Bring to a boil.

You want your vinegar mixture to boil for about three minutes.

Then pour the hot liquid into the jars of dill and cucumbers. Leave about 1/4 inch of air.

Very important step to make sure you get a nice seal. Wipe rim of jar with a clean dry cloth to make sure jar is dry. Immediately place lid from boiling water on top. Screw on ring. Place jar upside down.

Let the jars sit upside down for about 1/2 hr. Turn them right side up and check to see if they are sealed. We don't water bath our jars like some people do. Grandma says that if you boil the mixture for three minutes, it makes it hot enough to seal. I haven't had a problem with the jars not sealing. If by chance one does not seal, simply place upside down in a boiling pan of water for 12-13 min.

Let the pickles sit for at least a week before opening. Grandma says a month is better, the flavor will be stronger. YUMMY!

Lydia is walking!!

Lydia's 9 Years

I am so behind on what I want to blog. Today is Hannah's 7th birthday! I missed blogging about Lydia's 9th birthday, so I am going to post that now and Hannah's later. I hope you enjoy going back in time with me!

This song we found right after Lydia was born. It is our theme song! It still makes me tear up.

I was so young!

Lydia was born on May 31, 2000. I was 28 weeks pregnant when the doctors did an emergency c-section. Her placenta had stopped working and she wasn't getting enough oxygen. She weighed 2 lbs 14 oz and was 15 inches long. She was only on the ventilator for 1 day. She stayed in the NBIC for 2 months. She came home on July 30, 2000.

2 months old. The nurses at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center took this picture of her. I still have this doll and it is so tiny.

4 months old. Lydia was such a sweet baby. She would sit in her swing or bouncer all day, if we would let her. We didn't though. We had therapists over and we stimulated and worked her to no end!

7 months old. I LOVE this picture. It was fun having Lydia be a baby for so long (I really didn't know any different until I had Hannah)!

1 Year Old. Is that not a face of an angel or what? Lydia was just barely sitting up here. I loved that dress on her, you could see her chubby little arms!

18 months old. Lydia is starting to get more hair and losing her babyness.

3 years old. Lydia started wearing glasses and going to school! The bus came and got her the first morning. I followed it to the school in my car and cried the whole way!

Lydia 5 years old. The eye doctor said she didn't need glasses anymore. I put her in another year of preschool. I was scared about her going to "real" school.

Lydia's Surgery

Lydia had what is called Gastrocnemius recession or tendon lengthening. A tight gastrocenemius muscle (calf) prevents a child from walking flat-footed, so instead the child walks on tiptoes.

They put her in casts for 4 weeks and then she will wear braces. She is walking a lot better already just in the casts. Her balance is better and she is more confident. I think that this might do the trick!

Happy Birthday Shaylee!

Shaylee Ann Clyde was born on April 15, 2005.

She weighed 7lbs. 8 oz. and was 19 inches long.

The first year of her life flew by so fast!! She got nicknamed DeeDee Ann Coot. She was a VERY good baby. She slept through the night really early and was a happy baby.

When she was three months old, I noticed a strange odor when I walked in the room where she was sleeping. I figured it was her diaper. We took her to the doctor and he confirmed that she had an urinary tract infection. He sent us to Primary Children's where they did a nasty test with a catheter and dye. With x-rays it was diagnosed that she had kidney reflux. Her urine was going back into her kidneys. So she was on antibiotics for three months. When we went back to Primary's the test showed no more reflux. She grew out of it, thank heavens. (Lydia had just had heart surgery that June.)

On top of this, Shaylee would jerk or twitch all her muscles while sleeping. She would sometimes wake me up at night (after falling asleep at the breast) hitting me with her arms. Since Lydia was already in the hospital recovering from heart surgery we thought it would be perfect time to get her tested from a neurologist. (My mom or Kelly's mom had her most the time and I pumped milk while trying to take care of Lydia. Needless to say, I did break down and have a minor nervous break down. ) She had an EEG (tests brain stuff) and the test showed that her left side of her brain was slower than her right. To this day, I still don't know what that means. If anyone knows her today, you can tell that it hasn't affected her at all.

Shaylee was a happy and spoiled one year old. I finally weened her off breast milk at 13 months by introducing to her: strawberry milk!! She continued to sleep with Kelly and I until we moved to Eagle Mountain the next year. Kelly had major back surgery this year and I had to go to work. I remember missing out on some of the one year old milestones. I hated that she would run to her dad when she was sad and not me. When Kelly was healed and back to work our relationship came back to normal. She loved makeup and "pretties" (hair ties) back then. She desperately wanted hair!

2007

Shaylee was an adorable two year old as you can see in this picture. She finally got a little bit of hair to pull up in a mini ponytail. We moved to Eagle Mountain this year and she made friends really quick. She was the youngest and littlest, but acted the same age! Her big sister, Hannah, has become her role model by this time. She wants to be just like her. She learned to sing Rock a bye Baby and her ABC's.

2008

I really don't know where 2008 went! Shaylee learned to ride a bike with training wheels this year and loved being outside with all the other kids. She fell in love with Disney princesses, Hannah Montana, and Sharpay from High School Musical and Scoobie Doo. She started to learn how to spell her name. She began to sing a lot and has a very good tone. She got into panties with a few more accidents than I would like, but oh well. Her sassy attitude began and continues still.

Now Shay is four and wants an Iron Man birthday party. The girl loves Iron Man. She is a good kid. She goes to school with me and hangs out at recess or goes to Ms. Sally's class. They really take of her in that class and make her feel like she belongs. I really appreciate that. Shaylee is really getting good at writing her ABC's and can recognize most of the letters. She is sweet to Lydia most of the time. She loves taking care of her. I LOVE YOU SHAYLEE!

Student of the Month

Lydia goes to Eagle Valley Elementary School here in Eagle Mountain. She is in a small group classroom with Mrs. Cannon and integrates with Mrs. Washburn's 2nd grade. She is learning to read and do math.
Lydia received the student of the month for April. She has been progressing very well in her speech goals and has completed her speech IEP goals and had to set new ones. We are so proud!
Amy, who is one of Lydia's aides in class gave her the award. She told us that she had a hard time doing it without crying. Amy said there was a lot more to say, but she couldn't get it all out.

Girls Night Out (Cowboy Theme)

Last month, a bunch of girls from the school wanted to start a GIRLS NIGHT OUT monthly theme. The first theme was a cowboy theme. Lindsey had it at her house. She cooked BBQ chicken and everyone else brought their fav cowboy side dish.

We all had to pick a new "Hick name". Mine was Norma Jean (that was my grandma's name). Then we wore clothes pins and if we called each other by their real name, we got a clothes pin taken away.

Lindsey then gave us a cute and fun scavenger hunt, and then we played "Catch Phrase". It was a whole lot of fun!

The Lambs, Clouds, and us Clydes decided to go to Denny's before we went to the talent show. Wait stop the show! KELLY decided to go to Denny's. I didn't think we had enough time. What a joke that was!

First of all, I have been a waitress and I know the hard work that it involves.

Now that being said, it was a nightmare dining experience. The company was good though. There were only 2 waitresses and 1 cook. We sat down at 5:30 and got our food at 7:00. My pancakes were cold. The Lambs waited even longer, but we left so we could go to the talent show.

Our waitress was trying her hardest and gave us $5.00 off our bill.

"Moving On" Talent Show

On Monday, we went to a talent show put on by the Young Adults of the UDSF ("MOVING ON") These kids are age 16 and older. I met Jamie last night a man who is 30. He was very smooth and pretty dang cool.

It was so much fun to watch them perform. They ARE talented. It was nice as a mother of a nine year old to see these older kids' talents. My friends Jami and Brian Cloud and their family came with us. They love coming to our UDSF activities. Their daughter, Sierra (9) said that she loves being around these people. That is what our organization is all about. Awareness and acceptance.

My photos were very dark so I am not thrilled with them.

Danielle Peterson is one of our good friends. This girl has style. She does her own hair, goes to beauty school and was on the high school cheerleading team.

On Lydia's first Christmas, Grandma Price gave her a big bird doll that glows and sings. This has become one of her favorite toys.

For the last couple of years, we had it down stairs with all the other dead battery toys. We finally put new batteries in it and some other glow toys, and the girls have been loving them.

Fire Station Field Trip

Lydia's class took a field trip to the Eagle Mountain Fire Station. We had a great time learning about what the fireman have to wear. We got to go inside the ambulance! Lydia was scared the whole time because she thought that they were going to turn on the sirens. She hates loud noises. They never did thank heavens. She held on to Miss Amy the WHOLE time. Shaylee had a good time though.

Okay our BRILLIANT contractor designed a PERFECT rain gutter for our house!! Can you hear the sarcasm? I am not sure if I should name names or not. Let me know if you think I should, but it was such a poorly done job and it caused a dangerous situation. This is really out of our control. We try our best to keep ice melt on it, but it doesn't always help.

Riding Horses in the Mountains

It was time once again to gather up the cattle from the mountain and bring them home. Kelly was up in the saddle all morning, herding the cows with his one eye horse "Buck Skin". After most of the cows were found and put in the coral, we (the unoffical cowfolk) got to ride the poor worn out horses. The Hull family came with us and we ended up with some BEAUTIFUL pictures. (I MISS WARM WHEATHER)

Here is the weekly food storage plan my mom gave me. It is written in first person, I don't know who the author is, just so you know it's not me.

This breaks it down so I don't feel so overwhelmed. It's something easy I can do.

52 Week Food Storage Plan
FOOD STORAGE BUYING GUIDE PER WEEK

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Compare other 52-week plans for acquiring adequate food storage. Assess your family's needs, and devise your own list. Important points in acquiring food storage:

1. Decide what your priorities are.

2. Devise a plan to acquire something for your storage each week.

3. Store properly and safely.

4. Rotate your storage. Use and replenish your storage regularly.

FOOD STORAGE BUYING GUIDE PER WEEK (52 Week Plan) -

Week 1: NUTS Drug stores have Christmas sales. 2 lbs per person. Dry roasted ones store the best. Freeze bagged ones.

Week 2: CLEANING SUPPLIES Detergent 156 loads per person, Bleach 1gallon per person, Cleanser.

Week 3: MEDICINE CHEST Feminine Products, Pepto Bismal, Vicks, Cough Drops, Cough Syrup, Tylenol, Calamine Lotion, Kaopectate, Ipecac, Sunscreen Dispose of all outdated medications.

Week 4: FIRST AID SUPPLIES Band-Aids, Antibiotic Ointment, Ace Bandages, Steri-strips, etc.

Week 5: PERSONAL PRODUCTS Soap, Deodorant, toilet paper at least one roll per week. Shampoo, lotion, hand soap, 15 per person etc.

Week 6: PEANUT BUTTER 10 lbs per person (stores for a year or more)

Week 7: SOLID SHORTENING less expensive than oil. 12 lbs per person. Be sure and rotate. Will last several years.

Week 8: JUICES Avoid watered products. Get 100% juice. (lemon, orange, pineapple etc.)

Week 9: PERSONAL GROOMING Toothpaste, floss (important) razors, shaving cream. Consider your family needs. (you can always brush with baking soda)

Week 10: MIXES Cakes, pancakes, muffins, Bisquick etc. Bisquick stores best in the freezer or it gets bugs. You need an annual total of 300 lbs of grain products per person

Week 11: SPICES AND HERBS Think of what you use most often. Salt (NOT Plain you need the iodized kind) pepper, cinnamon, bay leaves. Look for bargains.

Week 12: RICE Secure 10, 15, 20 lbs. White stores best but is not as nutritious. I find brown gets bugs. Counts towards grain total.

Week 13: FIRST AID Gauze patches, swabs, cotton balls, first aid tape etc. Old fashioned Kotex is good for wounds. Sanitary napkins with adhesive do not store well.

Week 14: PASTA 5 lbs. Get other kinds besides spaghetti. I have found that spaghetti does not store well. Counts towards grain total.

Week 15: DRY MILK 40 oz. will make 5 gallons . Get what you family needs. 100 lbs per person per year. Stores well.

Week 16: SEWING KIT Thread, pins, needles, buttons (cut off of old clothes) snaps, zippers, tape measure, scissors. Consider your family's needs.

Week 17: READY DINNERS Ravioli, Pasta, Oriental, Boxed, Canned, Frozen. Buy what your family will eat.

Week 18: FLOUR 50 lbs per person (put in freezer or it will get bugs) Be sure and rotate. Counts towards grain requirement.

Week 19: SOUP Dry or canned soup, don't forget crackers.

Week 20: JELLO Jello gelatin and Pudding Mixes

Week 21: GARDEN SEEDS Radishes are great in an emergency. They grow fast, full of vitamins and minerals, and full of water. Buy locally if you haven't ordered yet. Week 24: PAPER PRODUCTS Paper towels, Aluminum foil, garbage bags, freezer bags, etc.

Week 25: CONDIMENTS Mustard, catsup, mayo, relish, Worcestershire.

Week 26: BEDDING Watch for White Sales. Buy a new thermo blanket.

Week 27: JAMS AND JELLIES Sure-Jell, Certo, Parafin, etc. Or buy the jams and jellies. Be sure you have supply of canning jars. Not large mouth, and lids and seals.

Week 45: VITAMINS 365 vitamins per person. Get extra C and calcium with Vitamin D.

Week 46: TREATS FOR BAKING Cocoa, coconut (gets old) nuts ( store in fridge gets rancid) chocolate chips.

Week 47: GRAINS Rolled Oats, Corn Meal (In fridge) Cream of wheat. (Rotate this, does not store). Counts as a grain. There is an oats you can buy at health food store that does store. I think it is scotch oats. Check and see.

Week 48: SUGARS Brown and white, powdered. 100 lbs per person total.

Week 49: OILS Vegetable and olive oils. Get a good quality. 12 lbs per person.

Week 50: CANDLES AND MATCHES Put in a sturdy box (preferably fireproof) and in a cool place you can locate in dark.

Week 51: POPCORN Go for big twelve pound bags. Counts toward grains.

Week 52: Merry Christmas You have given yourself a great gift security.

New Years GOALS!

People always say that if you don't write down your goals, then they are only wishes. So, I am going to write down my goals.

1. Kelly and I are going to TRY to stop swearing. I know some of our closer friends are singing Hallelujah! It is such a bad habit and it's starting to catch on to our kids. Not so good.

2. Read the Book of Mormon daily with the family. I am amazed how much this has helped the spirit in our home in the short week we have done this.

3. I want to lose 20 more pounds. I lost 20 in the last couple of months and I want to lose 20 more. I have done this by exercising. I haven't really changed my diet very much. I have made my portions smaller, but I haven't denied myself of anything. I DO NOT do well with deprivation!!

4. Get a BIG huge start on our year supply of food storage. I have a great 52 week plan that is going to help! It tells you what to buy once a week. By the end of the 52 weeks, you have your year supply. I will post it if anyone is interested.

We knew there was going to be a big snow storm, so we decided to go see family on Christmas Eve. We had fun at Grandma Malene's, opening presents and eating tacos. Then we went to Grandma Nina's opened presents and had steak and shrimp. Then we came home and got ready for Santa!

Hannah wrote him a note telling him that the cookies and hot chocolate were for him. When she woke up, Santa had left her note that said "Thank you." His writing was shaky she noticed, and commented, "I think his handwriting is shaky because of the sugar in all the cookies he eats." That's a realistic answer!!!

We went on a field trip with Lydia's school class. I took Hannah and Shaylee with me. We had so much fun. The girls got to go into a pumpkin field and pick their very own pumpkin. Kelly was looking for Shaylee and couldn't find her. He looked everywhere and started to feel a little nervous. He had a feeling to look under her bed. He found her there fast asleep. He picked her up and he asked her what she was doing. She said, "I was playing hide and seek with you."

Shaylee loves our kitten "Cali". She doesn't hold her the best way all the time. Shaylee makes me smile all the time. Some of the things she says and does, is so funny. She doesn't seem like a three year old. She acts more like an 8 year old. When she has friends come over who are older than her, she is still the boss. Her favorite book is "The Gingerbread Man". She has it memorized. She will sing "run run as fast as you can you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man." When she goes to bed at night I always ask her what the rules are. She says "Don't talk, don't get out of bed, don't jump around or you don't get bottle milk in the morning!" I thought these pictures were so dang cute!

Lydia started 2nd grade this year. She was very excited and was very impatient waiting for the bus.
Aaron and Shaylee are BORED! Aaron starts next week, but poor Shay has to wait 2 years!
Hannah is starting the 1st grade this year. She was so excited she couldn't sleep last night! She got to ride the bus with Lydia. Hannah gets to eat lunch at school! GLUTEN-FREE! Yeah!

Please take the time to sign this petition. The movie Tropic Thunder is coming out and it is very offensive to people with disabilities. It goes WAY over board. The word "retard" is used a lot in our culture. Most of the time when it is used, it is not made to offend those with disabilities. It still stings a bit when I hear it. But this movie has gone so over board! This movie would be criticized immensely if the actors were portraying an ethnic group. This makes me very sad because the actors in this movie are some of my favorite actors.

Happy Birthday Hannah!

I cannot believe that my little girl is six! It seems like yesterday when she was that colicky little baby! (Glad those days are over) She is growing into a sweet beautiful little girl.

We had a Hannah Montana Party for her and her friends. They got their hair done, make up done, and fingernails painted. They made necklaces with their initials and got to take home their own photo after the makeover!

I love America and the freedoms we have. I am grateful for all those who have fought to keep my freedoms. I love that I can go to church on Sunday and worship how I believe. God Bless America.
We had fun on the fourth. We went to Midway to my parents house and played in the water and played softball. The girls had a lot of fun! Grandpa had fun running through the sprinklers too. Later on, we went to Grandma Price's house and had a BBQ. We lit fireworks and watched the city ones go over Memorial Hill.

Hannah's ballet concert was so cute. She was a doll in a music box. Her dance looked just like a mechanical doll. It was so cute. Her teacher does such a good job with these girls. They were all together and looked so dang good. Grandpa Ed and Grandma Nina came to watch. This is Hannah doing ballet postions for the camera. The date on my camera was off. Kelly was mowing the lawn and unknowingly ran over a baby rattlesnake. The mower didn't hurt it, but when it curled up into a coil, Kelly saw it and jumped out of the way. Our kids were playing around that area. It's dead now, but we have heard of many other snakes that have been seen in our town. YUCKY!

On June 21, 2008, Kelly's parents, Ed and Nina Clyde were sealed together for all time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Right after, they were sealed to their three sons. It was a great day. The spirit was so strong. The missing link is now connected!

Father's Day was fun. We went to my parents house in Midway. My mom made chicken enchiladas and homemade carmel for sundaes. Grandma made homemade hot fudge. My dad, Kelly, and Bill took the girls on four wheeler rides to the barn. When they were there, they helped feed the cows.

We had SO much fun at the Scera Water Park today! It was our annual swim party for the Utah Down Syndrome Foundation, Utah County Chapter. It was a private party, so we had so much room and it was nice and calm. It was nice to meet all the familes who I have only talked to on the phone or through email! Thanks to my family who came to support us!

Orange had three kittens! I can't tell the sex yet (too small). They are so cute! My neighbor told me this cute joke.

A guy was selling kittens on the street. His sign said "Baptist Kittens For Sale". The next his sign said "Catholic Kittens For Sale". The next day his sign said "Presbyterian Kittens For Sale". The next day it said "Mormon Kittens For Sale". His neighbor thought this was strange, so he asked, "Why have you been changing the religion of kittens every day?" The guy with the kittens stated, "Well, until today, their eyes weren't yet opened." LOL

We had so much fun at the zoo. It was "Dream Night" for kids with disabilities and their families.

The kids had their faces painted. Shaylee would NOT have her face painted, so they painted her leg. Lydia was a bear, Hannah was a butterfly and Shaylee had a flower on her leg.

They got to pet a turtle, snake and see a one eyed baby owl. They also got to dance with Cosmo.

Monday, I decided to take all the girls for another walk, but this time teach Hannah to ride her bike.

Lydia walked so nice on our way, but on the way home....NO! She REFUSED to walk. I tried EVERYTHING. "One, two...........THREE!!" Nah. I'll just sit here on the hot asphalt road and throw a fit.

I didn't know what she wanted. All I know is she didn't want to walk. So I start taking her by the wrist and try lifting her up. NOPE. Total body weight dragging is what it comes down to. I drag, and drag and drag and drop and drag and pick up and drag and drop and pick up...get it? Meanwhile she's screaming and biting her other hand. Not fun. It's hot and windy and the whole world's watching this! I am totally pissed off and frustrated!

We FINALLY get home and I put her right on the drier for time out! NO more Sponge Bob tonight Missy! She's covered in black because of tears, snot and asphalt mixed together on her face. I grab a washcloth and start to clean her and noticed nice red marks up and down her arm. What the...? "OH @#$%!" Those are bruises from me dragging her 2 blocks.

This is where the Flood Gate of GUILT comes 'a flowin'! What a horrible mother I am! I look at her other arm and her wrist is bruised from her biting herself. I start breaking down and cry. I think, what am I supposed to do??? Lock her in a stroller if we ever want to go anywhere? I refuse to carry her, so does that mean dragging her forever?

So I call myself the "Drag" Queen for now. I feel like a trip to Vegas. Anyone?

In the Beginning

When I was 28 weeks pregnant with Lydia, I wasn't feeling her move very much. Lydia's heart rate started to drop. It dropped so low, the doctors felt it was best to do an emergency c-section. Born on May 31, 2000 she weighed 2lbs 14 oz. She stayed in the NBIC for 2 months during which she had brain surgery. When she was 4 months she had a VP shunt surgery and a revision later. She was hospitalized twice for RSV and double pneumonia. She had open heart surgery in 2005 and that went very well. She's recovered fine from all her hospitalizations and is healthy today.

Have you ever been so MAD that you wanted to bash your head into the wall?? Yeah well, so has our Liddy!

Last night Kelly and I were watching the movie "Serenity". We could hear the girls screaming and carrying on, but hell that's a normal night. However, there is a certain holler that a parent knows is not the "norm". Our "Serenity" was put on pause while we went to investigate.

We found Hannah (the Informer) on the floor holding her foot. Apparently, Liddy slammed her foot in the door. After some hugs and kisses, Kelly opened the door to find what looked like a scene from "Serenity". Liddy was looking up at him with blood gushing down her face. There was blood EVERYWHERE! She was frustrated and extremely pissed, so she banged her head against the door.

Hannah's foot is miraculously healed as she runs through the house to find her shoes so she can be dropped off at the neighbors. While we're driving to the InstaCare, Kelly's applying pressure while his is rising. His head is back and he is doing Lamaze breathing. I think, if he passes out I am going to KILL him. I look through the rear view mirror and think "Girl, if you weren't already bleeding, I'd kick your @ss!"

We're in the waiting room and the bleeding has pretty much stopped. We get called back and the nurse puts on numbing cream. The doctor comes in and Liddy points at him and says "Grandpa!" We wrestle her for 2 minutes and she gets one stitch. Then she gets spoiled!!

"What a BIG girl!" "Give me five" "Do you wanna sucker" "Here are three glow-in-the-dark stickers for YOU!" We could have been in freaking Disney Land (Entry fees are the same)!! I think a butt kicking is more like it! When the numbing wore off she did have a pretty big headache, so I hope that will teach her. As we all went to bed that night, a thought did occur to me.
